Cafe Kronborg 28/7

THURSDAY 28TH JULY – TREASURE HILL – STABLEFORD

As usual we all met at Café Kronborg for our regimental departure at 8.15am The Admiral was there to ensure there were no lagers however he was unable to join us for the day as his ankle problem had resurfaced. Aussie Mike Gosden bravely took the helm for the day and with the aid of a few helpers, including Aussies Martin Todd and Paul Avery, managed to ensure everyone had an enjoyable time and were returned home to the Kronborg safely later in the day.

The first group teed off at 10.00am and the weather was perfect with a nice steady breeze of about 6 knots, the temperature about 30 degrees Celsius. (Go weep WA) The course was in tip top condition and further improvement is assured as many tees were under renovation. The 17th par three green was also under repair and a cute temporary green was in use. Although only 105 yards long, the small green looked like a postage stamp from the tee but this did not deter Martin Todd who left the ball 4 inches from the hole! Another Aussie, Alan Sanders (Colonel), had a unique score of 9 points in two holes…Alas, that was his only claim to fame for the day.

We welcomed three guests today: Soren Linkuist and Tourbeen Peterson both hailing from Sweden and the Colonel (Alan Sanders) from the Gold Coast in Queensland Australia. A welcome back to Mike Winfield who has returned from his home in the USA and showed he still has some touch.

Two flights again today: A Grade 0 – 16 and B Grade 17 and above.

Yours truly was spurred on by the tousle his group were having, to take out the A grade first spot, closely followed by Ted Morris in second place and Martin Todd slotting into third position. B grade was won by Les Hall with Hugh O’Donnell coming second and Mike Winfield in the money, taking out third. The illustrious Compass Cap was won on a count back and first time recipient Ken Bernek was very generous with his donation to the bin. The total for the year so far is now 2,470 baht and eventually these funds will be donated to a Children’s Charity here in Pattaya.
