Presidents Report 2010/2011
Presidents Report Ending June 2010.
The year started pretty rough with the committee not fully formed as the AGM ended. At that time the priorities for the New Elected Committee were to find a Treasurer and a new PR Chairman. Another priority was to get the PSC website up to a higher standard. We were unfortunate enough to have our secretary in the hospital sick with dengue fever. George Benison did the PSC a large favour by taking down the minutes of the meeting then passing them onto Max Matthews. We also had Ron Herbert stand in until we had another Treasurer in place. Thanks to Ron everything went smoothly.
We were fortunate in filling the slots for our Treasurer and PR shortly after the AGM. Upon approaching Derek Brook and Tom Cotton, we were lucky for their acceptance of the positions, thereby completing the full contingent of our present committee.
During the past year William Macey has done a wonderful job in which many thought might be a problem. He has kept up the good work that Bernie Tuppin had in place and added six other charities to the list. One of our charity organizations has finally come to an end. The secondary scholarship program with the YWCA in now completed. The last payment of 200,000 BT was made in April of this year. The primary scholarship is still in place and going well. Due to the effort and time that William has put in, all is going well in the charity department.
In golf, we had the good, bad and the ugly. Our elected Golf Chairman Perry McNeely was doing a good job. The tournaments were full and our discounts with the golf courses were also good. Perry had initiated a scheme of buying large amounts of discount vouchers from the golf courses to get a better rate than selling it to the club members for their use. It is a program that is still in place for the benefit of our members. It was unfortunate that Mr. McNeely had to be dismissed in December 2009. We appreciate the work he did for the PSC and wish him the best. William Macey volunteered to do the work of the Golf Chairman until we had another election at the AGM. He did a great job in keeping in touch with the golf courses and PSC golf venues.
Thanks to Derek Brook, the PSC Discount Program is still on a strong footing. Some of the venues that participated were removed and other put on. Derek has kept a steady update on the book and I am sure it is appreciated by all.
As we all know, the PSC website was one of the biggest bitches of last years AGM/ thanks to the efforts of Tony Oakes, Derek brook and others that have helped and participated in the upgrade of the web, it is now being updated regularly and functional. It is a far cry from what we had and well appreciated. Tony is almost daily on the computer doing updates and entering articles and handicaps. Without his dedication to the site, it would not be what it is today.
On the social front, Mike Gerrard has again done a great job. The summer party and the Christmas party went off smoothly. Getting prizes, organizing entertainment and putting the events together are not an easy task. I am sure that all of the PSC members who attended the party can appreciate the hard work that goes in to theses events so they can enjoy themselves.
Max Mathews has again done a great job as the Secretary of our club. Max and his tape recorder do not miss much. The minutes of the EC are kept in detail and presented at each meeting for approval. Due to his attention to detail and accuracy, not much has to be changed or revised. We on the EC Committee, appreciate the job that Max has done for the past couple of years.
On the financial side, Tom Cotton was the person keeping our books and finances in order. We were lucky to have someone of his abilities to take over as the Treasurer of our club. Our income this year has leveled off somewhat. We always said that we would reach saturation point one of these years. It is possible that this was the year.
It should be noted though that the political situation has kept the tourism down and it would naturally affect our membership and thereby our income. It is very possible that our income will increase in the future years as tourism increases again.
Due to the health problems of Fred Horning, the position of the Founding members was turned over to Mike Johnston. Mike has been in and around Thailand for years. As Founding member of our club, both of these gentlemen are well aware of the background of the club and are protective of what our club represents and does. We all appreciate their input and their dedication in the running of the PSC.
At this time I would like to thank all of you for electing me as President of the PSC for the past year. I will now step aside and let others have the chance in running the club and to become involved in making decisions that concern our club.
Herbert H. Ishinaga.
President
