13th Charity Classic Report

Charity Classic Winners 2009

The journey to this years Charity Classic was not always smooth, and it was not until the last few months that a decision was made to go ahead at somewhere near full speed. It was felt following last years Charity Classic that with the rise of other Charity events and the strain placed on our ever helpful Sponsors, including the World Financial situation, that another approach should be taken. So negotiations took place over a period of months to combine with another Charity day out, before finally the decision was taken to bite the bullet and go for it ourselves.

It has to be said that through all this period The Golf Chairman, was convinced we could, and should, go for the day ourselves, while 'Cooler Heads' called for a joint approach. With the die cast it was full ahead and as we did not start until a couple of months ago it is only right before we get onto the day that some thanks should be said.

First to Perry The Golf Chairman, for his courage to go it alone in this financial climate. To Bernie who went out and got many 'Hole Prizes', to Max for his hours of whole hearted support, to Mike Gerrard for skill as a sane voice amongst the chaos, to Tony for his expertise and also to all the other supporters who went out at the last moment and did their best.

We next go to our 'Major Sponsors' all of whom dug deep in these tough times. So to Joe & Oiy St Laurent, Seadrill, Baltex Industries Corporation Ltd, Sinto Trading Co Ltd, Bauer, Shenanigan and Jameson's. Their will be more names below on the hole prizes but to all our Sponsors may I say on behalf of PSC, Thank You.

Early in the year it was decided to go ahead and 'The A Team' got busy. First a Course was booked and the decision was Phoenix, and then a format was decided on, and was to be the best three Stableford scores out of the Four Man Team. Then a full court press was put on to sign up a full house with the hoped for maximum to be 144 players. On the day we had that with I believe a couple of four balls extra.

On the Wednesday and Thursday before the Competition, The Golf Chairman's room was a hive of activity, with Perry, Max, Mike and Tony, feverously getting pins ready, working out plans and hoping everything was covered. After all, one mistake and they would never hear the last of it.

So the 'Day Dawned' and all the major organisors were down there early to ensure all went well. Pins and special instructions were taken out to every hole and the Charity Classic 2009 shirts were readied for distribution. Let chaos reign.

Soon with a 'Shotgun Start' at 1200 hrs the queue formed, and as is usual oddities occurred, but generally all went well and soon all the players were on their way to their start hole, not forgetting each hole had 'Special' prize that will be detailed below.

We started on L9, and it is fair to say here that we played the Lake and Mountain Nines, and also fair to say that the travel around took the best part of 6 hours, or maybe a shade under with each hole having a specific prize sponsored by some generous person. While I was going to do it later I think that as we are going around the Course it may be best to give the prize on each hole and the sponsor and the winner. Why Not??.
