Golf from The Bunker

Tuesday 8th April 2008

Khaow Kheow

Monday 31st March being the last game of the month saw Bryan Rought finish as the Golfer of the Month for The Bunker, although he wasn't in the winners enclosure today he had done enough beforehand to claim the trophy so well done Bryan.

With just a single flight and playing Stableford Geoff Parker had the best score of the day winning with 38 points, Fred Griffin and Gerry Cooney both had 37 points Fred beating Gerry on a count back and William Macey took fourth spot with 33 points. William won two near pin prizes too with the others going to Glen Cunningham and John McDonald.

Green Valley

Green Valley was the venue for Wednesday 2nd April and with the golf courses not so full of tourists it was a pleasure to get round the course in good time. Playing Medal and with the cut at handicap 13 Gerry Cooney had the best round of the day shooting a five under par nett 67 to win the A Flight ahead of John Graham, who also had a good round coming in with a three under par nett 69 and in third place was a disappointed Paul Smith playing off handicap three and finishing with a one under par nett 71.

In the B Flight Alan Sullivan won by one shot with a level par net 72 while Mike Lloyd pushed Eddie Martin into third place beating him on a count back both scoring nett 73.

Near pin prizes went to PJ Redmond, JJ Harney, Alan Freeman and John Graham.

Plutaluang

On Friday the cut was handicap 17 and playing the Royal Thai Navy course in a Stableford format again Jim Wooler, playing his first game in a while won the B Flight with 37 points, Bryan Rought took second place with 33 points and Brian Maddox came third with a paltry 28 points. The scores were better in the A Flight where Tony Robbins took the honours winning with 38 points, Mashi Kaneta came second with 37 points and Alan Sullivan took third place with 35 points.

Near pin prizes were spread around again, today they were shared between Alan Freeman, Jim Wooler, William Macey and Mashi Kaneta.

2nd Takeshi Hakozaki      (10) net 72

3rd Gerry Cooney            (11) net 73

4th John Graham             (11) net 74

With a lot of golfer's doing the sensible thing and heading for the hills to get away from Songkran for a couple of weeks we were left with only a few playing in the competition and it was John Graham who came out on top. With just a single flight John Graham beat Takeshi Hakozaki on a count back to win with a level par net 72, Gerry Cooney took third place with a one over par net 73 and one shot further back came John McDonald net 74.

The technical prizes went to Tony Robbins, PJ Redmond, John McDonald and Geoff Cox who won his first ever prize playing at The Bunker.

1st John Graham             (11) 34 points

2nd Gerry Coney             (11) 33 points

3rd Tony Robbins            (12) 33 points

Playing Stableford and with another small field John Graham playing his last game before heading back to the UK to WORK! Won again this time with 34 points which is pretty good going at the always difficult Treasure Hill. For a change Gerry Cooney won on a count back to take second place this time pushing Tony Robbins into third place, both scoring 33 points. Fred Griffin took one of the near pin prizes as did Brian Maddox who was also playing his last game before returning to the UK, the other two near pins went to Paul Smith.

Eastern Star

Friday 11th April

1st Tony Robbins            (12) 43 points

2nd Colin Stokes             (28) 38 points

3rd Gerry Cooney            (11) 36 points

Well Eastern Star is tough at the best of times, what with OB left or water right and sometimes both!

And with a little bit of wind thrown in for good measure it's never easy to get a good score but it was a walk in the park today for Tony Robbins who scored a magnificent 43 points to win by five points ahead of second placed Colin Stokes who is another newcomer to the winner's podium and third place went to Gerry Cooney with 36 points.

Only two of the par three greens were hit and it was Gerry Cooney who hit them both to take the kitty on his own.
