P.S.C. Fishing From Tropical Bert's
Saturday The 5th May 2007
|
The weather continues to be unsettled out at Sea. On this morning as we approached Bang Sarae the water was practically without a ripple, so we set out in calm water. However, as we got out beyond the headland the swell started to increase until as we hit the open Sea it became quite choppy. Once again the plan of going into the deep had to be abandoned, and we sought the cover of the Islands.
However we decided to fish between the Islands off the reef, and the swell was down to a manageable level. You seem to be able to set your watch to the time you are most likely to catch fish. 1000 hrs and 1500 hrs are the favourites and about 1000 hrs the first reel sang. Of course Nigel jumped to the reel, and after 10 minutes or so we knew it was a Ray. He is not the Ray expert for nothing. Every time he visits he seems to catch all the Rays. After a good fight the Ray was on board. About 8 kg. Then another line started to flow out, and Chris pulled in a Cobia. We always look for a Cobia as they are a fine eating fish. In Britain they are known as a Ling.
As usual the fishing then calmed down, and the wind got up and the Sea got choppier. Mind the small fish were still coming in, the Ladies much prefer a bag of small fish to a big one, so we tend at times to please the Ladies. It is called self preservation.
As the afternoon wore on we moved closer to Bang Sarae, and surprise surprise, Nigel pulled in another Ray. Day over off we went for a cold one and some 'Fish & Chips'
