P.S.C. Fishing From Tropical Bert's
Saturday The 28th April 2007

The fishing has not been good of late, and the more I go out the more I realise I have no idea what the day will bring. The last few times out the Sea has been fairly good, trip before last we had a tremendous thunderstorm when we had to anchor and take cover, but a couple of hours later it was really nice, with a slight swell and bright weather, but not a bite. Last time out it was a great day, but only one big fish an 8 kg Ray. but we did catch many smaller fish.
The night before, Chris phoned and asked if we were going as the weather forecast on the morrow was for thunderstorms and rain. A quick check showed the forecast of winds 5-10 mph, 60% chance of rain and scattered thunderstorm. Why not, so off we went.
Driving down to Bang Sarae in the morning, it was nearly dark, and it was obvious it was going to be a little unpleasant, but onto the boat and off we went. On the way out the wind and rain hit, and we battened down hatches, and decided to go a little closer to land as the waves were starting to get up. No need to be brave when you can't tread water very well.
As we approached our fishing grounds the storm lifted and we were able to anchor next to another boat who had also decided to be careful. The good news from them was that fish were around and they already were amongst them. The Captain quickly got the lines out, and before they were all in the water the first line was being pulled from the reel. Single handicap fisherman, Chris, was quickly on the line and pulled in a Pompano, a pretty little thing. Then in the next 30 minutes we had another one and a fish that looked like some sort of reef fish but of barbeque size.
The fishing then died out and other places were sought, with little result, except for a bag full of smaller fish, so as the afternoon slid by, we returned to our first location, and Nial brought in a Pompano and Nigel a Cobia and on his small rod a fair size Leatherjacket.
With the day drawing to a close we decided to call it a day, maybe the really big fish were not around, but we had enough to keep the fish eaters happy. T.T.F.N.
