P.S.C. Fishing From Tropical Bert's
Saturday The 31st March 2007

Well, we have not had a fishy story for some time, for some reason the fish have not been jumping into the boat. Mind that is not to say we have not caught fish and the Ladies have not been making their favourite food, just nothing exciting. The Sailfish of a couple of weeks ago must have jaded the appetite, mind Cobia tastes far better.
So off we went to Saddahip, where the first excitement of the day was walking along the Pier. This is the original 'Rickety Pier', and for we of the fuller figure quite a test. I always try to walk along the spine, but it changes quite often. My Daughter who was here recently reckons it was bravest thing she did whilst here.
So onto the boat and out to Sea. I do like my weekly fix of being on the 'Oceans Waves' especially when it is calm. The Sea on this day was just fine, a bit rocky as we went around the headland, but just fine when we were at the fishing grounds.
So, big lines out, it was time to daydream, or for Chris and Magoo to make up for lost sleep the night before. Me I like to sit up top and watch the big lines, particularly the balloon floats. If one goes it is always a special fish. On this day I was just getting into a good book, between the odd resting of the eyes, when the balloon slipped beneath the water and the reel screamed as the line was ripped off. There are always special fish we want to catch, high on the list are the 'Bill Fish' but just as important are the 'Tasty Fish' . As Chris fought the fish it became apparent this was a bit different. It could be a large Cobia, but it didn't seem to be quite right, and as Chris managed to turn it and it came to the boat it had a much more streamlined look, and it was seen it was a King Mackerel. This is held by most as the best tasting fish in the area, Now Chris was under real pressure not to lose it. He didn't, and it was soon safely on board.
It is always important to get the first big fish on board, it fills the pan for the feast later, but when people ask we can always tell them about the one that didn't get away. We can always say 'Yes well we caught a Big??'.
Back to the book, and a resting eyes or two later the line zipped out again and Magoo brought in a nice Pompano, in fact this one was quite pretty, and my Wife says tasted super as she had her Mother down from the Village. Big hunter home with the food.
Back at the Pier we braved the walk along the wooden slats that I am sure will one day give way, and went back for a 'Cold One' . T.T.F.N.
