P.S.C. Fishing From Tropical Bert's

Saturday The 17th February 2007

I always look forward to this day, a day the 'Lads' get together, zip down to Saddahip, and spend the day on the Sea, with me gently being rocked to sleep in my deck chair. I can watch the 'Big Rods' from here. O yes, some of the lads actually fish all day.
On this day one of the new fishermen phoned me up and said he would meet us at the boat, on the way down he phoned and said he was there, and Chris said we would be at Saddahip soon and we would see him in 20 minutes. Of course he was not there, and after some frantic phone calls we left, while he went home from Bang Sarae. Happy days, bet he does not go to the wrong pier next week!!.
As the boat gently chugged out to Sea, it was obvious that it was a bit 'Choppier' than we expected, but after the fine catches of the last few weeks we lived in hope. As we anchored the Captain was most concerned that the currents were swirling, and worried that we would run over the anchor rope.
Lines out it was not long before the first line zoomed out, only to be disappointed when the fish disappeared. Reeling in we soon found the bait gone, meaning the fish had taken the bait, but probably not all, and had ripped off the squid. Fish 1, Anglers 0.
Soon the line zoomed out again, and it was obvious that we had a biggish fish on, and for a moment memories of the week before when we caught a fine Sailfish surfaced, had we got another one?. Well it soon became apparent we had not, still it was a decent fish and was putting up a good fight. Finally it came to the boat and we could see it was a fine Cobia, of 14kg. Cobia is one of the tastiest fish in the Sea. Fish 1 Anglers 1.
The Captain shortly after came up with those magic words,'Water no good' so off we went to spend the next few hours pulling in Padang to fill the Ladies pans, this is the best tasting small fish and much beloved by the 'Taste Testers' or Family.
Note:- You may have noticed last week we caught a large 'Bill Fish' and despite the fact I should know better, I classed it as a Marlin, when in fact it was a Sailfish. Non of us gets younger and Beer destroys the Brain Cells. So to those who spotted my 'Deliberate Mistake' well done, to the rest, nice big fish was it not.
Want to go Fishing, phone Bua on 081 949 5070. T.T.F.N.
