P.S.C. Fishing From Tropical Bert's
Sunday The 7th October 2007
|
This is usually a good time of the Year for Fishing. That does not mean that the fish are jumping into the boat, but Historically we do well. So we looked forward to going out on the Saturday, only to be told by the Captain that Saturday was a no go unless we could swim in a storm, so reluctantly we agreed to go on Sunday, although we lost Koji when he had to go home that morning.
Never mind, if we didn't take the fish out on Saturday they would be waiting for us on Sunday. Of course my second joke is that they will jump in the boat. So into the boat and the morning was superb, slight swells, overcast with a few drops of rain. Mind the morning was nearly spoilt as we noticed the 'Sea Rapists' were out in strength. Have a look at their nets some time, nothing can escape through them, and they 'drag' close to Shore.
On our usual fishing spot, we saw many other boats had made the trek out, still out with the big rods and let us hope. The small fish were coming in when the first big line zipped out and Chris had a good fight with a fair side Cobia, that he brought to the boat before it slipped the hook and made it's escape. As Chris said, it fought so well it deserved to get away. Mind the next one shortly after was less of a challenge and was soon a board, so Supper was assured.
We seem to catch at 1000 Hours and 1400 hours, no rhyme or reason as the Tide changes all the time. Still on this day then 1400 time came and went, with only a 2kg fish the locals call something I cannot pronounce, despite moving a couple of times. As the afternoon wore on I sat with my little line with not a nibble, and on an impulse decided as nothing was having a go at the hooks to load them up with as much bait as they could hold, and put the rod in the holder.
Bang, all of a sudden four reels, two large and two small, started to have line ripped from them. People were dashing all over the place, however Dean only had a Remora, while my small line had a fair size Cobia on that I finally managed to get onto the boat, a nice fight. Then it was onto another rod to bring in another Cobia. As last time out, we were hit by a shoal but this time brought in 3 Cobias. It is always exciting when this happens, but shortly after we had another one on the line that managed to throw the hook, then finally another Cobia that Dean managed to bring in.
Time to go home, with the light fading and another day in Paradise slowly coming to a close, saw plenty of fish for the Barby. T.T.F.N.
