This is a fine time of the year to be messing around in a boat. The weather at Sea is fine, despite the fact you can see major storms on land, and the Sea is calm and the waves gentle. What more can one want, well a few fish would be nice, and this is also a good time for fish.
On this day the Sea was ideal, but there was a threat of storms that passed us by. So it was a nice slow jaunt out to the anchor point, and then out with the big lines, but with the tide running fast it was some time before we could use the small lines.
The fish have been kind to us of late, and this day, with two new fishermen Niall and Tom joining Chris and myself, it was not to change.The Captain is a bit of a Cobia expert, and we seem to do particularly well with them, and this day was to prove no different, and Tom was to catch his biggest fish ever, yes a Cobias. Mind that is not bad as Cobias are one of the tastiest fish around.
So the day went as usual, about 1030am the first Cobia came to the boat, by Chris, followed at 1500hrs with another brought in by Nial and then Tom's Cobia of 7kg, or so, shortly after.
With the freezer filling up a good day was already assured, when the line zoomed out and Chris was on it. It became apparent that it was not a Cobia as Chris fought it,. but finally he got it to the boat and it was seen it was a fine Pompano, biggest we have had for some time.
Day over, and a fine day it was, we chugged slowly in, only to be meet with the 'Sea Rapists', with their fine mesh nets out, just off the shore. It put a bit of a damper on things as we had a great day out with four reasonable fish, plus a few small ones, and they were dragging everything out of the Sea. Renewable resources and all that.
Still, on the bright side, you don't have to catch anything to have a great day out fishing. T.T.F.N.
