Golf from Tropical Berts
Saturday The 1st March 2008 |
Saturday The 1st March 2008: This has not been a good Year so far for the intrepid Fisherman. Quite why I cannot work out, although those who are 'wiser' reckon it is the weather. I thought we had a glimmer of the return of the fish in February, but the next time I went to the boat, the storm hit, and we could not even leave the dock. First time ever I have been 'Stormed Off' when I have not even left the quay.
Now leaving on the boat from Bang Saray one thing was obvious, the Sea was quite well down and I could see why we do not trail a spinner behind us, it would get snagged underwater. There is a man in the harbour there who spends all day in a canoe paddling around and collecting things in the water. He probably makes a good living.
The water itself was quite calm and I though we had the potential to at last have a good day. On station 4 hours later with not a big fish nibble, my optimism was a little dulled, despite the fact the Sea around the boat was filled with fish swirling and at times jumping out of the water. I guess the fish had their minds on other things.
The Captain decided to move about midday, and the new location seemed to offer a chance of both big and small fish, but with such a long time without a line zipping out, who knew.
Then one of the lines went and Badger was on the ball and after a short fight brought in a nice Queenfish, supper was assured. Then two other fish took the big lines but they both proved rather disappointing at about 1 Kilo each.
Then one of the lines went, and Peter was at the rod, and had a much better fight before he brought a nice sized Queenfish in. The day got a little better when shortly after Badger brought in a nice Carvelle, and the Captain brought in a very big Squid, always dodgy as they discharge a large amount of black liquid. at last we had had a day we could consider at least reasonable.
Not wanting to push our luck we then moved down to the 'Padang' area and filled the bags up with a bucket full of them. All the fishermen like to catch this fish as it is a favourite with a fish eaters here.
At the end of quite a good day it was nice to get back on dry land and hunt for a cold one. But of course we all know what day it was!!!. T.T.F.N.
