PSC Helping out at Local Youth Center

The Crossings is a drop in centre for troubled youth located behind Big C in the old Duck Square complex. Established by Manna House Missions they currently have facilities for Basketball, Table Tennis, and Skateboarding and were keen to establish basic Gym facilities. Involvement in sporting activities is one of the most positive methods of helping Street Kids find a new direction so when Daniel Docto a volunteer from U.S.A. approached the PSC for assistance they were keen to help.
On most evenings up to 30 boys gather at the venue and under the guidance of Jeremy Carter are encouraged to take advantage of the facilities. The equipment donated by PSC and a training program set up by Daniel Docto has been received with enthusiasm by the boys. The work being done by Jeremy is valuable to the community in offering alternatives to these boys from broken homes. Pattaya Sports Club are always prepared to offer assistance to community focused groups like this particularly when it involves promoting sporting activities.
The cost of B15,000 will be far outweighed by the value the equipment will be to this group.

UPDATE.

DO IT YOURSELF AT THE CROSSING
When PSC Charity donated gymnasium equipment to this group recently it was noticed that the ramps and jumps used by the skateboarders and cyclists were in disrepair. In fact they were quite dangerous and could be the cause of serious accidents. The children that attend this centre are from troubled backgrounds and the activities they participate in at The Crossing offer one of the few alternatives to roaming the streets and being tempted into less savoury activities. Replacement of the equipment [originally donated by X Games organizers] was not affordable and to have them repaired by skilled trades persons would also be very expensive. The ramps and jumps are the most popular and most used of the sparse facilities at the centre to lose them would be to lose many of the boys.
PSC Charity Chairman Bernie and Jeremy Carter the Centre’s Manager discussed the problem and arrived at the following solution. Why not have the boys do the job themselves? With funds provided by PSC the required tools were purchased and the work begun. An electric welder, angle grinder, files and paintbrushes, saws
and sandpaper soon found willing hands and under the guidance of Jeremy the repairs are being done. The enthusiasm shown by the boys to dig in at night under floodlight to have the job finished is marvelous. The work being done is of a good standard as the boys realize that it is all for their own benefit and gives them a marvelous sense of accomplishment and wellbeing. Very important to them to be able to say WE DID THIS OURSELVES!! Pattaya Sports Club is engaged in many community projects but it is often the case that smaller projects such as this one where the recipients are prepared to involve themselves and work toward a common goal that are most satisfying.
