TAKRAW TEAM SPONSORED BY PSC |
Pattaya Sports Clubs charter is to promote sport and support local charities,so the decision to sponsor a school team in a district competition fits nicely in that area. Pattaya District’s schools are conducting a Takraw tournament beginning in August that will involve teams of both boys and girls in four different age groups. District School number 8 have entered teams in all divisions and is conducting practice sessions almost daily in an effort to win overall standing, there lack of proper equipment and uniforms was not dampening their enthusiasm for the task ahead. The sports instructor approached PSC for assistance and it was decided that their dedication should not go unrewarded.
There are currently 60 children vying for the 40 positions and competition is strong, each team has 3 players and 2 reserves make up each squad, the incentive to make the grade was enhanced when PSC decided to supply each selected player with a distinctive strip carrying the PSC logo. In addition all 60 in the training squads would be supplied with a similar shirt to promote team spirit and bonding.
The presentation of the uniforms and equipment was held at the School on Wednesday 25th July and PSC was represented by Bernie and Khun Nittaya [ Most members will not be aware that Nittaya Patimasongkhorh was recently appointed to our Board of Directors and has for many years has managed our scholarship students while President of the local YWCA]. The students on receiving their uniforms committed to carry the PSC logo with a spirit of pride and determination win or lose. Sports promotion is a great way to encourage children towards better health and camaraderie is an added benefit that often leads to better citizenship PSC is proud to promote these qualities in the future citizens of our community |

| UPDATE |
|
With the new equipment and the promise of new uniforms for the successful players practice was more intense than ever with few of the contenders missing practice sessions. Both the boys and girls coaches found it hard to eliminate any of the contenders as the tournament weekend drew closer.
Eventually teams were selected and the tournament got underway in the hall at Muang 7. Unfortunately I was unable to attend the competition owing to other charity engagements but the report from the coaches justified our involvement in the tournament. All teams played well in their respective divisions and many medals were brought home, but the important message received was that all competitors conducted themselves in a manner that made the school and the sponsors proud.
