The last financial year has been rewarding for me in many ways and has given me the opportunity display the concern Pattaya Sports Club has for the local community. Pattaya Sports Club is well respected in many areas as a leading provider of assistance to the needy and under privileged and my visits to local schools and institutions are always accepted with enthusiasm and gratitude.
This year was the 2nd year of our PSC Scholarship Programme and a further 20 students were selected to join the initial 20 awardees. The programme guarantees the selected students an allowance of B10,000 a year for three years to continue their secondary school education . The results of the first years students was most encouraging and the academic levels of this years intake suggest that the future results will be even better. While committing a substantial sum of money to fund this programme we have not reduced our support for the primary school students. We still continue to fund 130 children at this level through the YWCA’s Happy Families Scholarship Project. I would like to thank the Ladies of the YWCA for their assistance in student selection and for the ongoing administration of both these Programmes, without which neither would function.
PSC’s involvement in education goes further than providing scholarships there is also an ongoing concern for the condition of facilities in the schools. This year we provided upgrades to facilities at a number of schools and also provided much needed sports equipment at various others. The Redemptionist School for the Disabled also received a large quantity of sports goods to assist their annual Sports Carnival.
The Fountain Of Life receive support via our Platinum Sponsorship of the Jesters Care 4 Kids and our purchase of prizes for the Monster Raffle at the Children’s Fair. Other child care groups that also receive assistance from PSC are Baan Jing Gai where we pay the rent, Agape where we supply milk products for the children and Mercy Ministries where we supplied equipment for their new premises.
We continue to support the Camillian Social Centre by supplying the bed linen requirements annually and support of the Jackalope Golf Tournament which donates all funds raised to Camillian. In addition we supplied furniture for their new Centre for Independent Living. The Sattahip Community Hospital receives a large quantity of dry foods each month for distribution to the aged and infirm in the area and I personally visit a slum area around Pattaya each month with a similar quantity for distribution.
At the Banglamung Home for the Aged we supplied hospital beds and O/B tables, patient trolleys, ceiling fans and TV’s for their hospice where the conditions are appalling. Garunayawet Home for the Disabled at Banglamung was supplied with clothing, shower curtains and a considerable quantity of Pharmaceuticals for their infirmary. A few other donations were made during the course of the year including wreaths for two of our oldest members who passed on namely Papa Ray Rogers and Don Antonio.
To summarize, while our donations fell short of last year by some B600,000.00 it should be considered that last year we funded our largest ever project [The Banglamung Shelter ] at a cost of B1,200,000.00 . Overall then our contribution to the local community in the last financial year was commendable and I am sure was appreciated by the beneficiaries.
I would like to thank Bjarne Nielsen for his continuing support in taking care of the Sattahip Community Hospital and my sidekick Nut Couch for her assistance on many occasions helping to untangle language problems I encounter. Our office staff continues to help me in many ways and my job would be more difficult without their help.
I have enjoyed the challenges that the position brings and with your support hope to be able to continue for the next term.
