Another year has passed and another record has been achieved, our donations to the local community in the financial year to April 30th were almost 3 million Baht. This figure exceeded our previous high by around 1 million Baht.
Our major project this year was at the Chonburi Shelter located in the Rung Po area 15k along Sukumvit toward Sri Racha. The facility caters to abused women and children, abandoned aged people, trauma victims with no support as well as young homeless mothers. Managed by the Dept of Welfare it functions as a half way house until these people can be relocated to a more suitable facility. The existing premises were grossly inadequate catering for up to fifty people in a space designed for 15-20. PSC combined with Jesters and PILC to improve the situation. Our contribution of 1.200.000 baht enabled a new dormitory and carers quarters to be built while the new kitchen and canteen facilities were funded by Jesters and PILC.
We continue to work closely with the YWCA and again supported their School Lunch Program with monthly visits to poorer schools in the area. We funded 130 scholarships for primary school students through their Happy Families Project. In addition PSC introduced its own Scholarships to aid secondary schoolchildren 20 of whom were selected this year and will be funded for the next 3 years. This scheme will be administered by the YWCA and it is hoped that we will be able to add an additional 20 students each year. Giving us the opportunity to assist some children through the first 9 years of their education.
A variety of projects were carried out at various schools in the community these included upgrading canteens, water filtration, bibs and mattresses for tiny tots, furnishing of computer rooms and renovations and extensions to substandard facilities.
At the Plataluang Community Hospital we installed air conditioning in the main waiting room greatly improving the conditions for the outpatients. We continue to support the Hospital’s outreach program and delivered B 10.000 of dry foods and toiletries each month to be distributed to the aged and infirm in that area.
Baan Jing Jai Orphanage was another group assisted by PSC as we made funds available to cover the rent on their premises for 6 months and also made several members aware of the work done by this group and they have been able to assist privately. Another similar facility to benefit from PSC aid was the Agape Children’s Home here we supply the daily milk for the children there. This group also have an outreach program and we assist by supplying essential foods to some of the many underprivileged in the community.
As a major sponsor of the Care for Kids we donated 100,000 baht to their Children’s Fair as well as contributing the prizes for the Monster Raffle on that day.
At the Camilian Centre we continue to assist by supplying their bedding needs annually and our sponsorship of the Jackalope Golf Day goes directly to Camilian. Other smaller donations and sponsorships were made in the period rounding out an excellent year.
This year Herbie Ishinaga and our V. Pres. Dennis Willet took responsibility for promoting Sport in the surrounding Schools, their efforts were much appreciated by the Charity Chairman and benefited many children. They arranged for sports equipment of many types to be supplied to almost 20 schools.
Accompanying this report is a list of donations made throughout the financial period 05-06. In closing I would like to thank our membership for their continued support and hope to have the privilege of representing them in the future.
B. Tuppin: Charity Chairman PSC.
