PSC CHARITY REPORT 04/05
The financial year ending April 30thsaw our charity donations fall a few baht short of two million. A remarkable effort and one that our members can be proud of. The aid distribute through our community was appreciated by many less fortunate than ourselves.
This year saw a departure from our normal local assistance programs when Southern Thailand and much of Asia was devastated by one of the worst natural disasters of modern times. The Boxing Day Tsunami laid waste to a large area of the south coast of Thailand. Pattaya Sport Club was among the first of the local charity groups to respond. Pledging B350,000 towards the reconstruction of Baan Nam Chem School in the Koa Lak area, and distributing a further B 150,000 of dry foods and bedding to survivors at camps in the Tekua Pa of Phang Nga province. Since that time Pattaya Sport Club has joined with PILC and The Jesters to help establish a lunch farm project at Sang Ga U school on Koh Lanta. We have allocated B 200,000 towards this project bringing our contribution to the Tsunami Relief to B700,000 . All of these funds were raised by this years Charity Classic Golf Tournament. Many thanks go to the Golf Committee for their efforts.
Our local beneficiaries were not disadvantaged by this change of direction as contributions matched those of past years. Donations were made to the following, Banglamung Community Hospital was supplied with B200,000 worth of modern hospital equipment. As in past years Jesters Care 4 Kids received support by way of Platinum Sponsorship [B100,000] and the prizes for their Monster Raffle. More than 150 Scholarships were awarded to primary School students through the YWCA and Mercy Ministry programs. At Baan Jing Jai Orphanage we paid the rent on their premises for 6 months, assistance was also given to the YWCA to carry out their School Lunch Programme. At Camillian Centre PSC supplied the the bedding requirements for the AIDS Hospice in addition a donation of B20,000 was made via sponsorship of the Jackalope Golf Tournament. Sports equipment was supplied was supplied to a number of Schools as well as to The Thai Amateur Boxing Assoc. Nong Pilai Remand Centre and Banglamung Boys Home.
At the Plataluang Community Hospital dry foods and toiletries to the value of B10,000 per month were distributed by the hospitals Outreach Programme to needy people in that area. Renovations were carried out at Mab Fuk Thom School and a water filtering system was installed at Wat Boon Sampan School.
Another major undertaking was the establishment of a shelter for abused children at Huey Pong, PSC joined The Jesters and Rayong Ladies Circle to provide this facility which is already well used . PSC also donated B 100,000 towards renovation of the boys dormitory at Huey Pong Welfare Home for Boys. During the course of the year several smaller donations were made and a full list accompanies this report.
I would like to thank Bjarne Nielsen and Nut Couch for their assistance through the past year and look forward to to assisting PSC in the future.
