PSC PROMOTING JUNIOR BADMINTON

Each year in October the Thailand badminton Assoc. conducts the National Junior Championships in three age groups Under/11, Under/13 and Under/15. Children come from all over Thailand to compete at what is the highest level they can attain in this sport. This year 840 enthusiastic young players arrived at the YWCA facility at Amata City Chonburi to compete in the tournament. Had it not been for the flooding in some provinces that made travel impossible the number would have exceeded 1000 players. The tournament is conducted over 3 days on an elimination basis so the eventual finalists need endurance as well as skill to prevail.

For the past three years Pattaya Sports Club has provided the funding to purchase the trophies for this event and has had representation at the tournament to witness the

finals and join with other sponsors in presenting the prizes.

This year V.Pres Dennis Willett accompanied Charity Chairman Bernie Tuppin to the event and both were impressed by the level of skill displayed by these young players, the tournament results are used to determine the national rankings of participants and top players go on to selection for International competition.

This competition has grown from 300 odd participants a few short years ago to expectations of over 1000 next year. Pattaya Sports Club is proud to be a part of this growth and to be involved with the promotion of Junior sport in our area.
